  • Oculus Link is currently in beta, and it’s in beta; it took me a surprising amount of wrangling updates, plugging in cables, hard reboots, and sacrificing goats to get things running. Oculus Link does what it’s supposed to do: It lets you play Oculus Rift games, through your PC, using the standalone Quest headset connected to that PC via a single UBS C 3.0 cable. Existing Quest owners are likely thrilled — especially since you’ll be able to play Half-Life: Alyx with a Quest using Oculus Link, as

This is true for nearly every 4K TV out right now, though, which makes spending less on a TV like the H9F an arguably smarter move in 2019. • The technical hook of 1917, a World War I action drama told in one continuous shot, is an illusion. But when a film is trying to evoke the full tragedy of war, “How’d they do that?” War games like Battlefield 1 or the Call of Duty series have already delivered the experience of 1917 over and over and over, and to more immersive effect. Modern war movies have found ways to see war from a new perspective, whether through slick docudrama (Saving Private Ryan), pulpy action (Fury), or stripped-down,

  • The fact that Fire Emblem games have permadeath exacerbates the situation, since each title needs a plethora of playable characters that can take the place of those that die in battle. The most recent entry of Fire Emblem: Three Houses brings the total playable character count to a mind-boggling 596. It might not be possible to remember the minutiae of each minor playable character, but every new Fire Emblem game has characters that are similar to ones in previous entries. Using these archetypes

The last trailer we saw from Tokyo Game Show revealed some of the bigger summons, like Shiva and Ifrit, but now we get to see what happens when you summon Chocobo and Moogle. The screens show the special “Stampede” attack, which summons a ton of chocobos to plow through the enemies. There’s also some nice clear shots of Reno, Rude, and the Avalanche crew, which you

Still, for video games historians, Yie Ar Kung Fu is an important work.
