Apple Pencil support and the newer A10 Fusion chipset are the headline features, as well as a maintained price point in most places (although it’s a touch cheaper in the UK). Apple PencilWe’ve never been entirely sold on the Apple Pencil for gener

Not satisfied with being the biggest online retailer on the planet, Amazon has its sights set on a new product for a new demographic: checking accounts for teens. Amazon Alexa could also feature in the product, further appealing to teens who are growing up with voice assistants. The new checking account product would be more streamlined than this, and offer an alternative to those who don’t have bank accounts to begin with. One issue Amazon could run into is that teens prefer going to physical s

For those tapping their feet waiting on the Mac Pro 2018, that means making one themselves – using six-year-old hardware. ExtremeTech reports that third-party Mac hardware resellers, capitalizing on the impatience of Mac Pro-starved professionals and power users that were ill-served by the 2013 ‘trash can’ revision’s limitations, are offering upgraded 2012 Mac Pro 5.1 models to customers. A steady stream of leaks has more or less confirmed that the Moto G6 is coming sooner rather than later, but now we’ve seen it from just about every angle. While previous generations of the G-series phones push a consistent design through its Plus and Play variants, it looks as though that might change slightly with the G6 family. This and other leaks show that the G6 will likely have a fingerprint sensor on the front, and the G6 Play leaks that we’ve seen show it on the back near the rear camer

Palm is still a phone maker, and it’s seen as the main rival to the iPhone. Palm could be back as a smartphone brand – take a moment to drink that in. While TCL rebooting the Palm brand isn’t new information, this is the first we’ve heard about a possible phone. There’s no word on whether it is the Palm Pre that would be rebooted, but that would make sense – the Pre was an incredibly well-made phone (fun fact: you could actually slice cheese with the keyboard, it was so sharp). We’ll await more

Google has released a Wear OS developer preview that includes features from its upcoming Android P software update. The latter is aimed at improving performance and battery life of Wear OS smartwatches, so we’re hoping we’ll see the wearables consistently last longer than two days on a single charge. If you take the watch off your wrist for an extended time, the new Wear OS software will detect this and turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular radios to help further improve battery life. It’s also

Do you like your demons and blood splatters rendered in the highest possible resolution when gaming? Then Bethesda and iD Software have you covered – they’re updating the gory shooter Doom to take advantage of the power of the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro. On the top tier consoles, it’ll now output at a max-resolution of 4K, adding extra visual fidelity (and frights) to the demonic invasion. Doom, released in May 2016, was already a versatile game, running on an engine that had a dynamic res

We’re not expecting to get the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 before August, but it seems that the phone might already have been benchmarked and it’s come out with predictably high scores, but not quite the best ones. A phone dubbed the Samsung SM-N960U has passed through Geekbench and that’s probably the Galaxy Note 9, given that the US version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the SM-N950U. The benchmark lists a single-core score of 2,190 and a multi-core result of 8,806, which unsurprisingly tops the sc

Van Tatenhove’s post also revealed two white-box designs for standard tabletop smart speakers with Alexa support, but they don’t necessarily stand out from other speakers in a very crowded market, compared to this new smart lamp design. From cars to the smart speakers of competitors, Amazon and Google want people using these voice assistants as their primary source of information and the way they make purchases. But these speakers’ Alexa support is often limited compared to what you’ll find from

The feature is part of a new software update that brings Bluetooth connectivity and control to the Google Home family of devices – i.e. the Google Home, Google Home Mini and the Google Home Max. The trick here is that Google Home devices are just using Bluetooth to funnel music from its connected streaming services to the Bluetooth speaker. Which means your speaker needs to be on at all times to receive the music and it doesn’t necessarily imbue the Bluetooth speaker with Google Assistant’s inte

Sensor Tower, an app insights firm, found that more than 13 million ARKit-only apps have been installed on iOS devices around the globe since ARKit launched on September 19, 2017. Looking more closely at the kind of ARKit apps users installed, games runs away with the lead, accounting for 47% of installs. So, which ARKit-only apps are the most popular? The data doesn’t include apps with limited ARKit functionality, such as AR photo modes or traditional apps with augmented reality elements tacked

The datAshur Pro is great for those who want to secure their data without having to resort to complicated installation processes. PerformanceThe iStorage datAshur Pro reached 40.7MBps in read and 43MBps in write speeds respectively on CrystalDiskMark, and that benchmark result is roughly in line with what iStorage suggests. Resetting the drive deletes the encryption key, making the data unreadable; as such the datAshur Pro is impervious to brute force hacks. Final verdictThe iStorage datAshur Pr

Sitting in the auditorium of the new iPad launch, listening to the new features it brings, I was struck by one thought: why would anyone want an iPad Pro any more? The new iPad (2018) uses the Apple Pencil, which is one of the key selling points of the Pro range. It’s hard to imagine so, but then again Apple doesn’t need to shift high volumes of the iPad Pro. The ‘budget’ iPad is the biggest seller by far, and the Pro range are the halo devices. A larger screen, around 11 inches in size, would b
