Just two years after it launched its 15.36TB SAS SSD drive – which then boasted the most memory packed into a 2.5 inch drive – the company has taken its own crown with a brand new 30.72 TB model. According to Samsung, the drive – catchily named PM1643 – is built from 32 sticks of 1TB NAND flash packages, all containing 16 layers of 512GB 3D Vertical NAND chips. This gives the drive two times the capacity and speed of its predecessor, but allows it to retain its unassuming 2.5-inch frame. If you

Scientists at Google’s health tech arm, Verily, however, have started using artificial intelligence to assess a person’s risk of developing heart disease. Using this information, it’s then possible to assess someone’s risk of suffering a heart attack or developing heart disease. The AI was then able to gather patterns from this data and understand which signs in the eyes scans pointed towards cardiovascular risk. While it might seem strange to look into a person’s eyes to determine their heart h

WyzeCam has released an updated version of its budget-friendly security camera with a better sensor, as well as motion-tagging technology, which detects and outlines motion directly in its footage. The best part is, like the original WyzeCam, the new version will still only cost $20. WyzeCam v2 is much like the original WyzeCam in most respects. Affordable peace of mindWhat sets this latest version apart is its motion-tagging technology, which outlines motion whether you’re watching a livestream

Alongside the Sony Xperia XZ2 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium 2 we might soon get a Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, and like those phones it might have a whole new design if a leaked image is anything to go by. We’ve heard several times that Sony is changing the design of its handsets, and in the case of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact that could mean a curvy, likely metal back. You can see it in the image below next to a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact and it’s clearly a lot less angular than its predecessor, though ma

Chrome OS is testing a new feature which allows for the user to run two Android apps side-by-side in split-screen mode (or a Chrome OS app alongside an Android app). Spotted by Chrome Unboxed, the feature has arrived in Chrome OS Canary – the early cutting-edge test version of Google’s operating system – and it’s designed for tablet or detachable Chromebooks. The tech site showed the system working without any apparent hitches on a Samsung Chromebook Pro in tablet mode, as you can see in the vid

Following hot on the heels of a Samsung Galaxy S9 benchmark we’ve now seen a benchmark supposedly for the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, and it’s even more impressive. The difference isn’t huge and can likely be accounted for by the 6GB of RAM present in the Galaxy S9 Plus benchmarked here, compared to 4GB in the standard Galaxy S9. With scores like that the Galaxy S9 Plus is set to be very powerful. The upshot being that wherever you live Samsung’s two upcoming flagships should be very powerful, but t

The latest addition to the list is Sony Xperia. Adding to the mysterious aura they had already amassed, the new Xperia teaser leaves you with more questions and answers. The rumor, this year, is that Sony could possibly announce the Sony Xperia XZ2 at the MWC. Taking the FCC documents and the Sony teaser into account, it’s going to be exciting to see what is finally unveiled at the MWC 2018 next week. Will the new Xperia be a hit or a miss in the wide net that Sony usually lays out?

This year’s International Toy Fair at the Javits Center in New York City was full of nostalgia, with toy lines celebrating LEGO’s 60th anniversary, Mattel Hot Wheels’ 50th anniversary, and Marvel Studios’ 10-year anniversary. But nostalgia aside, the tech toys on display were anything but retro. Some companies use cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) tech into their games; many others are teaching kids (and adults) how to code with awesome bots, without making it feel at all like learning. We’re

In May last year I was at a dinner to celebrate 20 years of the HTC brand. His engineering background gave him a precise eye for detail; he wanted every HTC phone to have a common design language, and software packed with features to delight users. Alongside the HTC Desire launched the HTC Legend, a beautiful metal phone with a more attractive feel in the hand and packing a more vibrant screen. Key staff began to leave, and it seemed the recipe for the special sauce that had gone into its flagsh

We’re less than a week away from the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and we might have just hit the leak jackpot, as a new report includes numerous high-quality renders, marketing materials and details about the S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. According to recent reports, Elon Musk is now one more baby-sized step towards his dreams of creating a Hyperloop network. After tweeting in July 2017 that he had received verbal permission to build a New York to Washington DC Hyperloop, the Washington Post states that Musk and his Boring company has finally received something on paper. As you’d expect, the government hasn’t just given Musk permission to start digging tunnels from DC to New York without any further ado. Instead it’s granted a ve

Google has removed the ‘View image’ button from Image Search in an attempt to make it harder for people to download copyrighted images. This snappily named browser extension for Firefox and Chrome does exactly what its name suggests: it reinstates the search engine’s View Image and Search by Image buttons. Interestingly, DuckDuckGo offers a ‘View file’ link that does the same thing as ‘View image’, but no ‘View page’. For example, !flickr looks for pictures on Flickr, while !unspla finds photos

Microsoft has a new idea to further refine the testing of Windows 10 by introducing a system of ‘Cohorts’ to gather more relevant and targeted feedback from Windows Insiders, in order to develop the features that the desktop OS really needs. Windows Central spoke to Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider Program at Microsoft, who explained that the new system is part of an overall revamp of how testing is handled. So instead of just general feedback, what if we focused on getting feedback from

While Microsoft hasn’t announced any official support for keyboard and mouse on Xbox One just yet, it also doesn’t look like it has any plans to stop those wishing to use such a setup. According the Xbox engineering lead, Mike Ybarra, Microsoft actually could block keyboard and mouse setups on Xbox consoles but actively chooses not to. The second is that having the option of keyboard and mouse support can be helpful from an accessibility perspective. Our general approach is to empower the develo

As part of its ongoing effort to clean up its reputation, Facebook will soon start using old-school paper postcards to verify the location of anyone buying ads related to US elections. The postcards will include a unique code, which advertisers will need in order to prove they are in the country. Antisocial mediaLate last year, Facebook identified at least 470 fake pages and accounts, which had spent a total of US$100,000 on ads. The announcement comes a month after Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerber
