There are ways to protect yourself when using an Android Device, and in general, your phone will do the work to stay safe for you. A recently discovered bit of malware tries to do just that, and once its implanted on your device, it can do some serious spying. Kaspersky Lab discovered the malware, which it named Skygofree, late last year, and has learned a lot about how it tries to get onto Android devices, and what it’s capable of once implanted. The Skygofree malware can get onto users devices

Following a weekend in which OnePlus store buyers discovered fraudulent charges popping up on their accounts, the company has responded by temporarily disabling the ability to pay with a credit card. It goes without saying that if you’ve recently purchased the OnePlus 5T, you might want to check your bank statement. But recently, OnePlus has issued an official response and has confidence that no information was compromised. It’s hard not to be concerned if you’ve used OnePlus’ online store. Thou

Facebook has been loading more and more features into Messenger, so much so that there are probably a few Messenger tricks you didn’t even know about. Facebook’s head of Messenger, David Marcus, wrote a post discussing the app and its future. Microsoft’s Xbox Elite wireless controller may be getting a followup if a series of leaked images are indeed what they seem. The leaked photos, spotted by a Reddit user and originally posted by someone on Baidu, show sections of what appears to be an Xbox Elite controller, only it’s not the same one Microsoft released a few years ago for the Xbox One and Windows. Previously, there was rubber on the underside of the Xbox Elite controller, but more rubber just means more grip. Image 1 of 3 Credit:

Blowfish and AES are by far the most common ciphers found in daily VPN usage, and you’ll most commonly see VPN providers offering AES 256-bit encryption. Those are the basics when it comes to VPN encryption, without delving into the depths of the subject. The Canadian pr

Increasingly, shortfalls in various aspects of image quality can be corrected in-cameraEven outright image quality is about much more than mere sharpness. Increasingly, shortfalls in various aspects of image quality can be corrected in-camera, or in post-processing, but that’s a poor substitute for great optical quality. If the leak turns out to be true, it looks like we’ll be seeing some very fast, very large SSDs in the near future. The 760p will come in five capacities: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB, and will offer sequential read speeds of an astonishing 3,200 MB/s and write speeds of 1,600 MB/s. In a statement sent to TechRadar, BlackBerry said “As you may have heard, WhatsApp has decided to end support starting this week, for BlackBerry devices running BlackBerry 10 OS and BBOS. “The good news is, this doesn’t impact Android-powered BlackBerry smartphones like the BlackBerry KeyOne and BlackBerry Motion. “Since these new modern BlackBerry smartphones are powered by Android, they receive the usual WhatsApp updates published through the Google Play Store.” If you rely on WhatsApp as a ma

Named as OSX/MaMi, the malware changes the DNS server settings on the victim’s machine, redirecting their internet traffic through malicious servers designed to steal the user’s sensitive data. The post on Malwarebytes’ forum which pointed out the malware to Wardle showed the infection came from installation of a dodgy program (‘mycoupon’). If your DNS settings are set to 82.163.143.135 and 82.163.142.137, then the malware is at large on your system. Other Mac malware nastiness we’ve witnessed a

In this article we’re touching on the genre that already creates enough confusion without any acronymic obfuscation – MMOs, or Massively Multiplayer Online games. Of course, a fun second life isn’t the same for everyone. Is playing alongside your friends to defeat monsters and villains the idea of a good time, or would you rather be a lone wolf that’s set to take down every other player in the game world? No matter which of these scenarios appeals to you most, there’s probably an MMO game out th

Microsoft has applied to patent a mind-controlled interface, so you may soon be able to open and control an app just by thinking about it. The data collected would then be used to launch and control an application. It noted the tech could be used in 3D modelling software, word processors, video games, virtual reality and augmented reality simulators and much more. The same team also recently filed a related patent for a motion controller powered by the brain, too. Microsoft and Facebook aren’t t

However, Qualcomm has now revealed that running standard Windows 10 desktop programs shouldn’t affect that impressive battery life too much. We were previously led to believe that to benefit from the 20 or more hours’ battery life, owners of Windows 10 on Snapdragon (also known as Windows on ARM) devices would need to stick to UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps. These are apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store, and Windows 10 S, which Windows on Snapdragon devices run by default, is a locke

As International Business Times spotted, security firm Malwarebytes recently discovered a fake Meltdown and Spectre patch which actually deposits ‘smoke loader’ malware on the victim’s machine. Also note that the real German cybersecurity authorities have been warning about phishing emails which are using Spectre and Meltdown ‘fixes’ as bait. Further gremlins are being encountered like Intel’s meltdown patch causing instability with older processors, or Microsoft’s Windows patch provoking boot f

In another entire-city-abandons-Microsoft affair, Barcelona has announced that it’s dumping Windows and Office in order to migrate to Linux and other open source solutions. The idea is, obviously enough, to save money by not paying subscription fees to Microsoft, because the beauty of open source software is that it’s free. Munich did so, initially instigating plans way back in 2003, and fully completing the move to open source by 2013. However, the city announced it was switching back to Micros

But sans Dolby Vision, it seems feature-lite at this end of the UHD player market… The UBP-X1000ES incorporates a high-end 192kHz/ 32bit DAC and offers a gold-plated phono analogue audio output on the rear. Set-up and featuresIn addition to the widely space phono audio output, there are two HDMIs, one offering full AV, the second audio only. The idea here is to provide a pure audio HDMI feed for those that need it. If you use a lesser 10.2 Gbps HDMI cable, the player could output 4K at SDR, an

Last year’s Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 was one of the most expensive and premium-looking Android Wear watches we got to try on our wrist, but it turns out that wasn’t even the most luxurious version of the watch. It’s polished with white gold, and features an obscene 589 diamonds along its strap and bezel. And about those diamonds… you’ll have 78 VVS baguette diamonds w
